Your First Visit
Getting started at the Neuroscience Institute
To make the most of your first visit, gather all your personal medical information. Have it ready for the doctor, along with your own questions about what we can do for you.
What to expect when you first call
While you are on the phone scheduling your first visit, our staff may ask questions about your illness. They may also ask what your doctor has arranged for you. This helps us set up everything properly.
We like you to ask questions
It is important for you to understand why and how you will receive treatment. So we encourage you to ask questions to be clear on things. Before you come in, please take a moment to write down questions for the doctor.
Medical records and list of medications
We need all of the medical records related to your neurological condition. This includes any radiology test results and records of surgery. We must have them at the time of your first visit. You can bring them or have your doctor(s) send them to us.
Please make a list of exactly what medications you take, and any drugs you are allergic to. You must bring this with you on your first visit.
Make us aware of changes
When you arrive for each visit, please tell us right away if anything has changed. For example, your address, telephone, primary doctor, insurance or other important personal information.
Sometimes we’re late for your appointments
Sometimes we need to delay your visit time because your doctor has an emergency or a patient with a complicated problem. We know waiting is inconvenient. We appreciate your understanding.
If an emergency causes us to cancel your visit, we apologize. We will reschedule your visit for the soonest available opening.
If you need to cancel, give 24-hour notice
Please give us at least 24 hours notice when you need to cancel. We may want to give your appointment spot to a patient in urgent need. We are happy to reschedule your visit.
